I finally took pictures today of some of the cake jewellery in situ - on top of the cakes -- which I have been making for Rene Hoelscher, owner of Let's Eat Cake in Woodstock, Ontario.
We think these skulls are soooo cool!
People are now buying the cake jewellery "stems" individually to put in with their flower bouquets. For this purpose, we will be happy to provide the stems in any length with pretty much any colour of glass, semi-precious stone or metal bead or Swarovski crystal -- just let us know -- but they're usually made with Swarovskis. We usually use silver-plated wire or copper wire; sterling silver is also available. Various stem colours and styles are always available at the bakery individually or in 3- or 5-packs so you can spark up your own dinner party dessert, and shorter cupcake picks are now available, as well. Wash and dry them well, store in an airtight plastic bag and they'll last a long, long time.
We have a bazillion ideas for formal cakes, themed and classic wedding cakes, birthday cakes for all ages... come and talk to us! Order your custom cake jewellery through Rene.

Hallowe'en Display, Skull Sales To Date & The 2nd Annual Bridal Bonanza Coming Up...
This is my Hallowe'en market table display -- picture taken at home. I had hung my good bud Skully (Dollarama bargoon two years ago) from a small black earring stand with my red and black feather and pewter skull earrings. It certainly attracted a lot of attention. Almost sold the blue skull earrings, but in the end the customer went for a skull bracelet and a chakra skull choker.
Here is another plug for Nelson Jewelry & Gemstones: speaking from a business point of view, in skull jewellery sales alone I have more than made back my investment in two bead orders. Joanne went out of her way to bring in more howlite skulls in different sizes and colours just for me. All the other semi-precious stones I ordered at the same time are gravy now thanks to the skull sales. Thanks, Joanne!
People laugh out loud at all my skull stuff -- I do also realise they're laughing at ME. Whatev. Seriously, a chakra skull choker? However, in the past month or two I've sold at least 40 of just the howlite skull bracelets, chokers and earrings alone to both guys and girls (and their mothers and grandmothers -- pssst... I know what you're getting for Christmaaaasssss) and I've completely lost track of the number of bone, semi-precious, turquoise, pewter and sterling skull items I've sold in the past year or so. It really is unreal.
While at the market (such a slooooow day today, no exaggeration), and on a more serious front, I put together a dozen or so pairs of Swarovski earrings for the 2nd Annual Bridal Bonanza at the Quality Hotel & Suites in Woodstock, Ontario, 6-9 pm, Wednesday, October 25, 2012. I'll be at the Let's Eat Cake table with Rene Hoelscher and crew 'cause I make all of Rene's cake jewellery. In fact, TODAY my cake jewellery is on two happy brides' wedding cakes. Rene had everything under control when I was in the bakery earlier this afternoon around 2 p.m. -- one cake finished and delivered and she was putting the finishing touches on the second cake.
Now to get working on those long-promised TURQUOISE PICTURES. Yummmmm.
Thanks for stopping by.

Turquoise ring & cake jewellery...
Could anything be more disparate??? I dunno.
Week from hell, and it ain't over yet. It is so hot and humid today. Been drinking gallons of water and sluicing off under the shower. It's like it was in Rome where I'd stand under their tiny little trickle showers and the part that wasn't getting trickled on was oozing slimy sweat. I'd keep turning and turning trying to cool down all at the same time. Half of me would be under shower water, and half of me would be slime. But, hey -- I was living in ROME. Sigh........
Anyway, really fast: Campo Frio turquiose wrapped with tinned copper... and my new design, Confetti cake jewellery, silver-plated wire, multi-coloured seed beads. You saw it here FIRST.
Ring, if it doesn't fit the customer tomorrow, $15. It's just under size 10, available from me.

Good taste -- and tastes good
Under usual circumstances, most art is appreciated through just a few of the senses: vision, perhaps touch when you're talking sculpture, memories invoking place and time. But it's almost never, ever edible. Except...
On display and available at the Woodstock Farmers Market on Nellis Street every Saturday morning and for pickup through the week, Rene Hoelscher's Let's Eat Cake cakes and cookies are funny, whimsical, not to mention incredibly beautiful, hand-sculpted stand-alone works of art. And they taste sooooooooooooo good, made as they are with pure, fresh ingredients.
Cake piggy that I am (I've been cut off from the free samples), I'm not the only one who thinks so: check out what the Ontario Wedding Blog has to say.
I've begun providing cake jewellery at Rene's behest, so if you're planning a wedding or require dazzle-your-guests'-socks-off cakes or cookies with bonus off-the-charts "Oh, wow! Is that ever cool!" you can contact either of us at the market or via the usual virtual multitude of means.
Stay tuned: for those firmly grounded in physical reality who believe cake in hand is worth 478 gazillion hits online, Rene's bricks and mortar bakery will be opening later this spring in downtown Woodstock.
